The Sisterhood is pleased to host the Book & Author Supperette with noted journalist Alyssa Katz, author of “Our Lot: How Real Estate Came to Own Us.”
“Our Lot” is an in-depth look at the recent housing bubble, investigating its origins in Washington as well as on Wall Street. “Katz brings something fresh to the debate in ‘Our Lot,'” wrote Bloomberg News, “a down-in-the-trenches history of how the housing binge bubbled up from decades of social engineering by a government bent on encouraging home ownership.”
Publishers Weekly, which gave a starred review, praised Katz’s “richly detailed analysis of the recent (and ignonimious) history o the American real estate market…. [A] gripping account of collective irresponsibility.”
Katz is the editor of The New York World, a news project based at Columbia Journalism School. Previously, she was editor of City Limits, an award-winning magazine investigating the institutions and policies at work in New York City’s neighborhoods.
She is also a member of the EMJC Board of Trustees. Her book will be available for sale.
Many thanks to the dinner chairpersons: Jane Pritz and Shirley Strauss
Tickets are $36. RSVP to East Midwood Jewish Center Office, info@emjc.org, by November 9.
